226: Oregano

Here's my pot of oregano growing on my front step - lightly misted by the gentle rain coming down (rain is a daily occurrence here now), while the basil seems happier in the backyard. This is my first attempt at growing herbs and I am totally won over. It is so nice to just go snip some off and throw it into supper! I am nearly drooling, thinking about how good my basil is going to taste with a fresh-from-the-garden tomato once they're ready...but I'm getting ahead of myself, since they haven't even started bearing fruit yet.

Playing with a new toy again today - we got a Panasonic Lumix GH1. Its primarily purpose for us is to be a static cam when we are shooting video, but it's so nice and small that it might be my throw-it-in-the-purse camera now too.

Love it! I too am about to create my own herb garden – nothing like fresh basil and cilantro. Any tips?

I don’t know a whole lot, but I’ve gathered that good drainage is key. I put a layer of crushed rock in the bottom of my pots and I’ve had pretty hardy plants. My oregano looked pretty sad after I cut last time, but I gave it a good watering and it bounced right back. Basil seems to like more sun. That’s about I’ll I’ve got for tips!
