43: Yellow

Lemon
Yellow is the theme for the week on the 365 Project site, in an effort to add some colour to January :) This pile of lemons at the grocery store today caught my eye. Voila!
Apple
keeps the doctor away? Maybe I should amp up my fruit intake and find out. Or maybe I should stop hoping a pain free way of being healthy will one day present itself, and instead get my butt in gear and get in shape already! But I guess either way I should be eating more fruit.

Books

I want my kids to be readers. I want them to know the joy that sitting down with a good book can bring. That said, we don't do a ton of reading in this house. I hadn't been to the library in ages. There is something incredibly overwhelming about standing in the middle of the children's section and seeing rows upon rows of books and not knowing which ones are meaningless drivell (or worse, encouraging things I don't want to encourage), and which ones are winners. Thankfully I found a list online from a blogger I would say I trust, and her top ten children's authors. We went, we conquered, and the proof is in the bookshelf. So far, The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss is their favourite.

40: Chocoface

Chocoface
I had the most wonderful sous chefs in the kitchen this afternoon, helping me bake chocolate cupcakes. And what batch of cupcakes is complete without licking the spatula?

39: January Joy

Berries

I stopped on the way home from the library today to get this shot of a neighbour's planter, still filled with festive decorations. It sure is nice to see something bright and colourful in the drabness of January.
Markus
We went to Clay's grandma's place for lunch today, which is always a fun and inspiring time. That lady is something else. When I'm pushing 90 I sure hope I have the same joy and zest for life. She pulled out the Ring Toss game, which the boys always get a kick out of. Here, Markus is proudly announcing his score.

Parking

I went out for a jaunt to the mall today with the kids. I picked up a new hoodie at the Gap (thanks to the 40% off coupon they were handing out boxing week to boost January spending), and we all got a treat at Starbucks before we left. When it's -23C, I'm thankful for underground parking!

Sobeys

I was already a faithful shopper, you really didn't need to do anything to keep me coming back. But you... with your extended shopping hours, and today, FREE COFFEE... well, you really must love me. I'll be back, don't you worry.
Bathtime
Little boys manage to get pretty dirty despite being cooped up inside during this typical long, dark, cold prairie winter. Time to scrub-a-dub! ...but not before Mommy gets a shot of the water, boys!

Tired

After much playing around and experimenting with my flash tonight, I have a winner. I love that in this shot the blocks are reflected on the table. Love it. And now, I'm even more tired.
