349: Blessings

"Count your blessings, name them one by one..."
Well I count three right here! My kids are the best :)

348: Frost

I do love a foggy and frosty winter morning!

Dear family in near and far places. I know you would prefer a photo of my children. So would I. Alas, they are in bed, but the blood orange soda was still awake so I shot it instead. One of these days, I'll catch those kids in action.

346: Humble

The humble bean.
I've never been much of a fan of beans. I knew they were a good source of vegetable protein, but to buy them canned or even dried in small bags, they are as expensive (sometimes more expensive!) than meat. And I have a husband who wouldn't think it was very cool to spend more money on a vegetarian dish when he could be gnoshing on a big ole steak.
But then I bought a load of beans in bulk. They were ridiculously cheap, they are so easy to cook, and I made an amazing chili with them for supper tonight. I'm so excited to start cooking with beans more!

I made a huge pot of cabbage borscht for supper, and had to find a way to fit it into the fridge. Not only that, but needed the pot free so I can use it to cook chili tomorrow. After one look at our packed fridge, most would faint at the task at hand, Clay included, but I rose to the challenge. Why? I've been training for this moment my whole life. After all, my mom is the queen of cramming stuff into smaller containers. Nothing enters her fridge if the contents could be transferred to something smaller. Three jars and one smaller pot later, and I'm done. Thanks Mom, you trained me well.

Today I managed to cook the soup, bake buns, and cookies. In one day. Don't be fooled, not all days are this productive. For my mom it wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary though. I hope someday I can just take it all in stride like her, and not feel like I deserve a medal for my efforts at the end of the day.

A winter's day
In a deep and dark (November);
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.

(I Am A Rock - Simon & Garfunkel)

Perfectly undisturbed, I find a fresh snowfall absolutely beautiful. I wanted a good snow shot without having to leave the house (try going anywhere quickly with 3 kids under the age of 5, then add snow to the mix and you'll understand why), and spied this from my bedroom window, looking into my neighbours' yard. I'm not a creepy neighbour, really.

343: Steer Clear

Had to make a trip to the store to pick up some things for my under-the-weather man. Rain in November in my neck of the woods? Bizarre. It's supposed to turn to snow overnight, so I don't plan on going anywhere tomorrow on those icy streets.

342: Words

Just a Words with Friends game I've got on the go with Angela, on the old iPad. This is one of the only games I play - the kids use the contraption far more than I do!
A brisk morning walk over the Broadway bridge this morning had me in awe of the still-as-glass reflection in the water. Love this shot.

340: Night Life

On a Friday night, if I'm actually out of the house and not out for the count after a week running after my wonderful kids, you won't find me at a club - praise God, that has never been my thing. You might find me lurking in a parking lot trying to get a good panning shots as you drive to the club though. I'm having more fun, guaranteed.
