263: Delish

I had a wonderful evening, spent with all my sisters on my side of the family - there are five of us now that Steve is married. A girls night with all of us is rare, since Jude lives two provinces away, and Jean in Kenya.

We went for dessert and coffee at Calories, a fabulous local restaurant and bakery. I used to be all about the chocolate, but now I cannot resist a good (I stress GOOD) carrot cake. Even better than the dessert though, was the joy of being together as family. I love you, girls!

262: Paradox

One good thing
stacked on another
piled next to more
good things.
One good thing
moves under the
pressure, and
everything
comes tumbling down.
Good things
sometimes seem like
bad things
and make you curl up
in a ball of tears.

Much thanks to my man who helped spark an idea for a photo tonight, when all I wanted to do was throw in the towel and go to bed.
"Auntie Kimmi, can I have another carrot from the garden?"
You bet, Julia!
The carrots are finally a good size for eating, and we were very happy to dig in today. There are few things that compare to the deliciousness of fresh veg from the garden.

Jean and Julia (my sister and niece) arrived last week by surprise, for Steve's wedding! We are having an awesome time enjoying their company - a short visit but definitely a sweet one!

Derek celebrated his birthday today (happy birthday, Derek!), so the guys came over to play video games for a while.
I stayed in the kitchen, editing photos :)

Rocks? They must be climbed. That's Baby Moosey, my doggie, in front, and his brother - Batman or The Riddler, I'm not sure which one - in the back.

That's my dad on the left, and I'll give you one guess as to who the man on the right is :) They are, unmistakably, brothers.

When I was younger I couldn't fathom how people could mistake one for the other...it's clear to me now!
My brother and his beautiful bride, sharing their first dance together as husband and wife. It was a wonderful day of celebrating their love for each other.

Thanks for everyone who left a comment on yesterday's photo, I did go with the pins. It turned out fantastically - the topper Megan picked was perfect, and a few flowers here and there made it a show stopper. I would definitely make a wedding cake again, but I won't do it for free next time ;)

Nearly done! I need your opinions: What should be the front of the cake: Photo 1 (left) or Photo 2 (right)?

I had thought the front of the cake would be what I have pictured on the left, and the right would be the back. However, I think I really like the look of the pins being visible! It's like it's all dressed up and those are the white buttons on the cake's black-tie clothes, if you will. What do you think?

Yesterday was cake baking day, today was cake icing day (here are 2 of the three with the crumb coat on, chilling out while they wait for a thick coat of icing), and tomorrow shall be cake building day. This really is a lot of work, but it's fun work. It's fun seeing this thing take shape. Steve, if you're reading this, take one look at this project of mine and don't ever doubt that I love you!
I woke to fog hugging my world, thought it would make for some nice photos if only I could get out to take some. Alas, the day is too busy for that luxury. I wondered where my shot today would come from, then I looked at my deck and saw the rails filled with beautiful webs just waiting to be photographed. Thank you Jesus, for knowing my needs and providing before I even ask.
